What is the KonMari Method?

It’s a method of positive and mindful decluttering. About keeping items that spark joy, parting with what you don’t need or use, and coming up with a plan for how to store it. The intention behind the KonMari Method is to go through the full tidying process in your home once, within a set period of time, for a life forever transformed.

The method encourages tidying by category, not room, and folding and storing your clothes vertically to maximize space and improve accessibility and visibility.

The five categories and the order to follow:

1. Clothes

2. Books

3. Papers

4. Komono or Miscellaneous (everything that isn’t in the other categories)

5. Sentimental
